It’s funny how retro always comes back in style, which seems to be the case with snapback hats. A snapback hat is a regular style baseball cap, but instead of the velcro strap or being fitted, it has a plastic snap strap.

I’ve been wearing hats everyday since childhood. People think I look weird when I don’t have a hat on, because I wear them so often. I’ve owned tons of hats – snapback, velcro strap and fitted – and I think I know them pretty well.

I would never buy a snapback hat.

According to the internet, people like Ice Cube, Eazy E and Tupac wore snapback hats. I don’t know if that’s true, but it still doesn’t make me want one.

The plastic is cheap. The little plastic nubs that the strap snaps onto eventually break. The plastic is uncomfortable. Snapbacks died for a reason. They suck.

I love Two and a Half Men, but I don’t care for Ashton Kutcher much. He’s an over-actor and always plays the part of the guy you feel embarrassed for.

I’m not sure what Kutcher’s role is going to be, but I can’t imagine it’s going to be similar to Charlie’s and if it is, I don’t think Kutcher can pull it off. The show is hilarious though, so I hope it works out.

It seems that live-streaming is gaining in popularity over at YouTube. Live-streaming is nothing new. Sites like UStream has been doing it for a long time now. But when a site as big and well-known as YouTube does it, viewership is high.

Over the past weekend, the annual 3-day Coachella music festival streamed live on YouTube, of which I watched all of it except for the last couple hours on Sunday because I had to wake up early the next day. It was awesome.

Next Friday, April 29th, 2011, YouTube will be airing the royal wedding of Prince William & Catherine Middleton. The broadcast will start at 10am BST (9 am GMT, 2 am PT, 5 am ET) on the official channel at http://www.youtube.com/theroyalchannel.

I won’t be watching that one because I don’t really have any interest, but I love what YouTube is doing. This goes to show the reach that YouTube has as compared to the smaller live-streaming sites.

Personally, I hope that live broadcasts of concerts takes off. Watching Coachella was one of the funnest things I’ve ever experienced online.

Glenn Beck, one of the most controversial political personalities on television, is leaving the Fox News Channel. For many people this is great news. Beck is known for making wild accusations and outrageous statements. He’s also known for yelling and berating his audience and for being racially insensitive.

I never watched his show so it doesn’t matter much to me either way. I suppose with the bad advice he spreads to people all everywhere, it’s probably for the best that he’s leaving the network.

I have a very close friend who loves the Glenn Beck show so I know at least one person who is sad to see him go. That friend of mine likes Beck because of the crazy things he says though. It’s purely entertainment. I suppose I can understand that.

How do you feel about his departure? How long before Beck finds himself another soapbox? Who cares?

Have you seen that movie? Its so damn good you almost forget how much of a nutjob Tom Cruise is. War of the Worlds is actually my fiancés favorite movie. She still remembers the first time we watched it together and how every second of it was so suspenseful to her. Ahh, good times.

I’m not sure if I really have a movie that makes me feel like War of the Worlds does for my girl, but I have always been a big fan of Elf, featuring Will Ferrel. I never tire of it, lol.

I believe it was E! Entertainment yesterday that showed a quick quiz near the end of the show last night right before the Biggest Loser came on. Tons of people tune in to watch The Biggest Loser so this quiz got lots of views, and today, the topic is a hot trend! Yay!

The question was “Which of the ‘Desperate Housewives’ has a B.S. degree in Kinesiology?”

The answer was Eva Longoria, who received her degree from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1998.

So what is all this kinesiology hooplah? Kinesiology is the study of human kinetics and human movement. It’s often a field of scientific study of human and animal movement. A degree in Kinesiology can result in a career as a rehabilitation professional, careers in the sports and medicine industry, as well as work in clinical research studies.

Eva Longoria is not only beautiful, she’s smart too.

I’ve been hearing a lot about vegan diets throughout the day today and I think I have a good feeling why. Oprah announced on her show earlier today that she and 378 of her staff are going to do a 7-day vegan challenge. She did a 21-day vegan cleanse back in 2008, so this challenge shouldn’t be too difficult for her.

If you don’t know what a vegan diet is, it’s basically a vegetarian diet taken to the next level. You can’t eat meat obviously, and you can’t eat anything that contains animal by-products. This includes things like gummy bears because they have gelatin which is created by boiling down animals bones and tendons. Gross huh? You also can’t eat honey because it’s created from bees, which are kept in confinement against their will.

It’s little things like this that make a vegan diet so hard. You have to check the ingredients in everything you eat. No more honey-nut cheerios. No more cheesecake. You also need to take extra vitamins to make sure you get the nutrients necessary to keep you body going strong.

I know this because my fiance is a vegan. I’m not a vegan myself, but I’ve learned a lot just from being around her. I’ve learned a lot about checking foods when she asks me to go the store. I’ve also learned to check restaurant menus before we go out to dinner. My fiance isn’t vegan for diet reasons, but for ethical reasons, so it’s not just a temporary diet for her. This also means that she won’t buy products that have been tested on animals or clothes made from animals.

Do you think you can do a vegan diet? Once you learn what you can eat, it’s not that hard. Replace meats with tempeh, tofu and seitan, all of which can be seasoned just like meat. You can also eat rice, quinoa, potatoes, veggies, bread (not made with milk), hummus, beans, and all sorts of other foods.

It’s hard to say how well Fox’s new show Bob’s Burgers did last night, but based on trending searches, I’d guess that it did fairly well for it’s first night on air. It remained a hot trend throughout the night, in addition to searches for the name Nicole Eggert, who played Jamie in the show Charles in Charge, of which the opening credits were played during another Fox show, Family Guy while the characters discussed the show and the actors.

If you missed either of those shows, you can watch them both on Hulu.com for free right now. I actually missed Bob’s Burgers and caught only the last 10 minutes of the show, so I’m going to watch the full show today.

One other TV related search I noticed is for the new series from NBC, The Cape, which had a two-hour premier last night. This show has been getting tons of commercials during prime time television so I’m sure it’s going to do fairly well, assuming it’s any good. I missed it, so I can’t tell you, but despite the stupid name, I think it looks interesting. They will be showing all two hours of it again tonight if you missed it, or you can also watch it on Hulu.com whenever you have time.

As long as these sites put out quality content, it’s all fine and dandy, but most of them are just spammer sites trying to make a buck on adsense and the content is crap. I’m not going to “out” any of these sites, but I’m going to provide examples of some recent trends I’m seeing sites talk about without any idea of why.

If you watched Million Dollar Money Drop last night, you’ll know where all of these trends come from. They were all parts of questions asked to the contestants.

One question for example was something along the lines of “What Barbie does Mattel not sell?” and the choices were Sunday School Barbie, French Maid Barbie and Lingerie Barbie. Now if one of those hot trends sites sees these terms and writes about it, do you think they will make any money from their visitors? No, probably not because the people who were interested were only interested on the night the game show aired, and they probably didn’t answer the question anyway.

I think the real reason I’m writing this is because I hate it when I visit a site to read about something I just saw on the news or on Facebook, etc. and come to one of those Hot Trends scraper sites that post a paragraph of useless text only slightly related to the topic and in almost completely broken English. Just something that’s been on my mind…

Update: It seems the trending searches are due to a viral campaign which has taken Facebook by storm. By replacing your profile picture with a cartoon character from your childhood, you are “helping” in the fight against Violence to Children. The gesture is fun, but kinda meaningless. Consider donating to a place like SaveTheChildren.org too.
